Went to see Legally Blonde at "Flicks" tonight. (See my last diary on the subject if you don't know what that is.) It was better than I expected.

There's a different culture here at Stanford than there was at Michigan State. See, a lot of the movie takes place in and around Harvard Law School. The audience actually booed when its name came up. That wouldn't have happened at MSU; MSU doesn't see Harvard as its competition.

The movie's not wonderful, but it was fun watching it with an interactive crowd that responds to what's going on. I like that kind of thing. I bought a season pass tonight because I decided it was worth it. There are six or seven more shows. Next week is Rocky Horror Picture Show. I wonder if I can figure out a costume. Maybe if I wear my black suede doublet with something appropriate under it...?

On Friday I gave a presentation on compilers (specifically, the `bison' and `flex' tools) to the other new Ph.D. students. We're all trying to help each other with studying for the comprehensive exams at the end of the month. I spent the weekend preparing another presentation for Monday on deductive methods in logic (ugh).

My new sandals are starting to get broken in. I was afraid that they were too large for a while. I still think they are, but it's not enough that it's a big deal. Next time maybe I'll try on the 12s.

I'm going to Las Vegas for Christmas! I'm flying in from San Jose, the rest of my family from Detroit. It should be a lot of fun. It's too bad that my sister isn't yet 21, so we can't all hang around in the bars or casinos. Oh well, there are lots of other things to do in and around Las Vegas. My parents are renting a minivan, so it should work out pretty well.
