Diary Entry 53

Someone should alert the proper authorities to the existence of a cartel controlling merchandise in the Palo Alto area...

Specifically, men's sandals. Today I biked over to the San Antonio Shopping Center in Mountain View (thanks for directions, "em"!) in search of some cheap sandals. I visited Wal-Mart, Sears, Mervyn's, and Payless Shoe Source. All of these had men's shoes, all of them claimed to have men's sandals, but none of them actually had any. Now, admittedly I didn't look in every size, but I scanned up and down the shelves and didn't see any at all casually looking. Certainly none of them had any in 13, although all of them had size 13 shoes.

This is puzzling. There are lots of people out there wearing sandals. Are they all wearing $100 sandals from fancy stores? Do they go to some special "discount sandal shop"? Are sandals rationed and only available by special arrangement in California? Weird.
